Why the Wild Horses are Vanishing

David Hesse of Wild Horse & Mustang Rescue worked briefly with the BLM wrangling wild horses. He was left bewildered why so few people know what’s really happening to our wild horses, until he did some research for himself.

Why aren’t more people concerned about the wild horses vanishing? What’s being done to protect them since the Burn’s Amendment of 2004 was passed, which removed the wild horse & burrow protection act of 1971.
    Only 20,000 left?

  2. HorseFreak007 says:

Do you know the info on that song?
    I like it! =)

  3. guysonofclark says:

Thanks for exposing the truth, Mustang David! The world is a better place because you care about the wild horse! This was an excellent video.

  4. mestenodave says:

I am sorry, but I don’t. Contact Robyn Day at Voluntary Intinct listed here and she could tell you.

  5. mestenodave says:

There is so much misinformation put out by the Bureau of Land Management and special interest groups, that most people are unaware of the effort to wipe out the wild horses from public lands. It just doesn’t make sense that 20,000 horses are causing more damage than 8 million head of private livestock. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that something doesn’t smell right.

  6. mestenodave says:

Thank you. Please let as many people know to contact their government representatives to hold the BLM accountable for their nefarious actions. If people don’t do something soon, all wild animals that do not have commercial value, will become extinct.

  7. HorseFreak007 says:

    Okay!

  8. MustangBlueWY says:

Excelent video! BLM has a conflict of interest between ranchers and oli and gas development. BLM should never have been the ones chosen to manage America’s wild horses!
Sadly, the very mustangs (Virginia Range horses)that Velma Johnston (WIld Horse Annie)fought so hard to save, are not even included in the 1971 Act.
Furthermore, land is not the only reason we are loosing our wild horses…

  9. MustangBlueWY says:

there are many breeders that see the wild horse as a threat to their business, and therefor have over the years, spread rumors about wild horses being the scurge of America…this cannot be further from the truth.

  10. MustangBlueWY says:

All horses originated in America, this is their homeland…they need to be reclassified as Native American wildlife, at which time they can fall under the endangered species act since America now has less wild and free roaming horses then when the 1971 Act was passed.

  11. alexglitter says:

Cattle ranching is tremendously destructive in many ways. The mustang is but one of the species that are systematically removed to “assure safety” to cattle. Include pumas, wolves, coyotes, & bison. Also affected are animals whose habitats are damaged due to water reallocation or fencing installation. Add to this mllns of tons of methane, trampling of plant habitats, and wilderness areas strewn with cow flops. Cattle lobbies are powerful, due to the unconditional support of the administration.

  12. dougsgirl63 says:

Let the truth rain down from heaven, cattle on public lands and the few horses we have are being blamed.Thank you for this video i will post it every where!

  13. JerseyRenegade says:

The destruction of ranges by wild horses is a fallacy. Cattle outnumber wild horses 300-1. Because biologists have deemed wild horses to be direct descendants of the Spanish Colonial horse of the 1500′s has caused Americas wild horses to be labeled as an invasive species. With that being said, the BLM,U.S.Fish Game and Wildlife and Forestry Commission do as they choose when eradicating wild horses from the ranges at their discretion.

  14. JerseyRenegade says:

Assume that over 1,830,000 died from natural causes and poaching in a 270 year period. That means 150,000 horses were removed, adopted out and slaughtered in a 38 year period by the BLM.

  15. thehappyhoof says:

Research the connection between BLM and the non profit organizations, run by retired BLM that really make “public lands policy”. Ranchers po po ed and ignored what the enviornmentalists that were secretly taking over BLM were doing for years, till it was too late. Then to keep their grazing rights, they had to jump in bed with them, and rename the WILD horse as “FERRAL”. This is not the ranchers as much as it is Eviormentalists running BLM, and making public lands policy.

  16. thehappyhoof says:

Check out the PLF, Public Lands Foundation run by BLM. This message board will not let me post the web site.

  17. thehappyhoof says:

Correction to below, BLM dose not run the PLF, rather the PLF runs BLM. PLF is made up of retired BLM and their family, who MAKE PUBLIC LAND POLICY. It is a non profit organization. There is something REALLY WRONG with retired BLM, in a non profit organization making the POLCY for BLM and “public” lands. But to them they are not really “public” lands, they considder it THEIR land. They use the word “public” just to make the real “public” think they are watching out for the publics interests.

  18. jsb400 says:

Thank you for this video. Very well put.

  19. LadyKaliska says:

I’ve also noticed that, going to the BLM’s websites, the scheduled adoptions are far less than they used to be. I live in CA and I normally look up to see when they’ll be in my state. Normally it’s like 5-6x a year, but now it’s 1 in 2009 (at this time) Alot of people know something’s not right, we just have to fight back. Besides I don’t want to eat that “doped” up beef anyways.

  20. focusfrost says:

Thank you so much. Let folks know that former Senator Burns, whose amendment authorizes the BLM to send the wild horses & burros to slaughter, became a paid lobbyist for the cattlemen as soon as the law allowed after leaving office. Concerned Americans can visit the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign for links to contact their Congressmen to stop this. I wonder what is the connection between BLM staff & the ranchers who are paid millions to warehouse them until slaughter?

  21. h4cs says:

I can’t stand how the BLM thiks that they can just round up thousands and thousands of wild horses to sell them for meat! I mean horses are not cows. I have many videos showing what happens to horses when the are killed in my favorites. Anyone can watch them.

  22. badgerbonz1 says:

I agree the wild horses should be preserved and not just rounded up an eradicated. But ranching has also been a way of life for thousands of years. Millions of people eat beef, how many in the US eat horse meat? Eradicating ranching and cattle is just as absurd as it is with the wild horses. Ranches are not a big business with deep pockets. Most ranchers barely get by even with thousands of cattle. They are very conscious of land management and not environmental terrorists as implied here.

  23. TheWildhorses10 says:

    1. Who said anything about eradicating cattle ranching? Only a small % of cattle are even on Public Land.

    2. Cattle ranching on public land is double dipping our taxes – - ok for small family ranching, but most are now big corporate owned ranches.

    3. The real issue is not cattle anyway, it is mining, oil, & natural gas drilling, you will find several YouTubes from ranchers again that. too.

Small ranchers & horse advocates – join together before there are no public lands for either.

  24. horseychick72 says:

I noticed someone commented that they wondered why more people weren’t concerned about wild horses vanishing…I know why. They are not aware of any of this. Sadly, they average person does not hear about this. Its like Dave says on the video, if you asked 10 people on the street if they know whats happening to Mustangs, 10 people would likely say “no”. I can see this, because i know that if i were not seeking info about the Mustangs’ plight because i care, I probably would be unaware too. There are occasional snippets here or there about it, but usually so insignificant that unless you are on the allert, you would miss them. What we need is some wealthy celebrities to pool together their resources and get this into peoples living rooms, their schools, in their faces. I wish i could do more, but all my funds go just to take good care of my own horses (one is a wonderful half Mustang son out of a BLM mare). I do sign petitions, email letters and try to tell anyone who will listen about it. Unfortunately its not enough. The public needs famous faces to smear graphic videos and details all over the place. Sadly, in a world where there are wars going on, a hurting economy, job issues, budgets to balance, kids to educate…our wild horses, the very symbols of our American heritage and freedom are lost in the shuffle.
